Portfolio Statement

In my digital portfolio I have included images of my work ranging from when I studied my art and design foundation course to my recent pieces that I have worked on. For my first project I sampled various techniques and took a drawing of an installation into different media forms. This is shown through a piece created with tyre inner tubes, a print and a magazine cover. During that term I also produced an A1 size picture of my face made from word cuttings relating to myself in a “word illustrated” project.

My next project was an identity box. In this box I was able to express parts of my life such as likes, dislikes, childhood, family, and world events. On the outside of my box I took my inspiration from the Beslan tragedy in Russia, with more about my personality on the inside. For my self motivated project I decided to specialise in fashion. I choose the theme of the seven deadly sins and incorporated each one into a garment. I decided to represent them in seven old cut out books. I particularly enjoyed this part of the course as it allowed me the freedom to express my love of fashion.I took inspiration, in my final project, from the installation made from inner tubes and worked with the shapes of the material to create quirky bags and accessories I found that the material used gave the pieces a more unique touch.

Since finishing the course I have been working as a visual merchandiser but have continued with my passion for creating art recreationally. So I have included examples of my more recent pieces such as a garment produced using a pair of socks, shirt and a t-shirt to create a reworked piece and some fashion drawings inspired by architecture.

Manchester Metropolitan is my first choice because of the reputation of the fashion course and the artistic nature of the city, I feel good examples of this are the rich music history and the northern quarter’s interesting shops and boutiques.
